War Against Thalassemia

The “War against Thalassemia” is an ambitious initiative undertaken by the Rotaract Club of Kandy Metropolitan, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Kandy Metropolitan and the Thalassemia Unit of General Hospital – Kandy, with the primary objective of eradicating Thalassemia from the Sri Lankan community.

Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder characterized by the abnormal production of hemoglobin, leading to severe anaemia and other health complications. It poses a significant burden on affected individuals, their families, and the healthcare system as a whole. Recognizing the urgent need to combat this condition, the project aims to raise awareness, provide support, and promote preventive measures to eliminate Thalassemia.

The “War against Thalassemia” project will actively engage the Sri Lankan community through various fundraising events, charity drives, and blood donation campaigns to support patients with Thalassemia. These efforts will not only assist in providing necessary medical treatments but also contribute to creating a sense of solidarity and compassion within society.

The Rotaract Club of Kandy Metropolitan, Rotary Club of Kandy Metropolitan, and the Thalassemia Unit of General Hospital – Kandy will work closely together to coordinate and implement all project activities. Their collective expertise, resources, and commitment will drive the success of the “War against Thalassemia” initiative and contribute to building a healthier future for the Sri Lankan community.

Through collaborative efforts and the dedication of volunteers, healthcare professionals, and community members, the “War against Thalassemia” project will make a significant impact in the fight against this condition and improve the lives of those affected by Thalassemia in Sri Lanka.
