Project Suwa Yathra was a joint initiative of the Kandy Metropolitan Rotary Family namely between the Inner Wheel Club, Rotary Club and Rotarct Club of Kandy Metropolitan. The project aimed to provide healthcare services and raise awareness on various health issues in the local community. The project took place at Sandagala Raja Maha Viharaya Handapanagama, which is an extremely rural & low income village 10Km away from Mahiyanganaya. The total health camp consisted of a full scale medical checkup & treatment facility where over 1200 patients were checked, treated & given the necessary support & medical assistance with over;
- 250 dental procedures & checkups
- 400 eye tests & 270 spectacles donated
- 100+ thalassemia tests for the school children
- Sexual awareness program for over 200 schools students to help with the large scale issue faced by the community in terms of underage pregnancy.
- Fully stocked Pharmacy with over 150,000 of medications given out free of charge to the patients.
- OPD, Kidney & General checkups for over 1200 villagers to help them maintain a health lifestyle.
