Kare for a K-9

The Rotaract club of Kandy Metropolitan began Project Kare for a K-9 in 2021 because we Rotaractors thought that amid the COVID pandemic, little street dogs also required assistance and food to survive as well as we do as humans. Kare for a K-9 was reintroduced on August 26, 2022, in honor of World Dog Day, continuing the ongoing program.

During the pandemic last year, we were able to feed 30 dogs, and this year we were able to feed 50+ dogs. We consider this project as a developing initiative inside our club, and we anticipate continuing it every year to make sure we leave room in our hearts for the furry street buddies we see every day but never take the time to assist.

Additionally, Kare for K-9 this year was integrated into one of our other projects, project “Get to Know,” where we were able to increase the value of project Kare for K-9 and explain to our members why we carry out such a project each year.

Our Goals were To ensure that our society recognizes the animals that aren’t receiving the proper care. To pinpoint the parts of Kandy where there are more dogs living in hunger. To instill in our culture the practice of feeding street dogs as well.
