Club History

The Rotaract club of Kandy Metropolitan chartered on the 8th January 2021 was an initiative of The Rotary Club of Kandy Metropolitan. The Charter Year President Rtr PP Chandula Nanayakkara & Successor Rtr IPP Shehara Karunaratne together with their teams worked hard to bring this club to the position where it is today. There were times where the club had to go through many hardships & challenges along the way especially as a newly formed club, but at the end of the day as a team everyone managed to complete the task at hand & bring the club to the position it is today. At the start the club had only 22 members, who barely knew each other. First impressions? Virtually?? Yes, all our members initially met each other virtually.

Whilst none of the members knew each other, after a while of discussions they realized they were all looking at one big picture, to make this world a better place and to get to know more people through service and fellowship. The members of the Rotaract Club of Kandy Metropolitan did finally meet the members at the first installation ceremony of the club. The installation ceremony was held as a joint charter club installation with the Rotaract Club of ACBT Kandy on 4th April 2021. The Charter year months flew by in no time, however the biggest achievement during the few months was the bond that was created made virtually which helped the club move forward. During the few months the club completed projects, educating its very own members about the rotaract movement and engaged in other club and community service activities. By focusing on members during the charter months helped us keep the sustainability of the members, which as a result we see has grown up to 40 members which is a milestone for the club.

Next entered the tenure of Rtr IPP Shehara Karunarathne & her team during which the club sore to greater heights completing numerous projects & also creating a deeper bond with fellow rotaractors around the country, permanently edging the name of the Rotaract Club of Kandy Metropolitan into the history books of the movement.

During this year the club managed to advance a great deal not only in terms of projects & connections but also in terms of its unity & team spirit, the bond between the members have grown vastly. The club also proved its merit by achieving the Rotaract District Citation (Bronze Category), Gold Awards for Most outstanding Inter-Regional Fellowship Initiative & Most Outstanding Club Service Initiative Under General Audience whilst also being recognized for hosting the district project, world food debate.

Moreover, The Rotaract Club of Kandy Metropolitan maintains a strong bond with its parent club. It is because of them that the club is active today. The courage and strength given to the club by them has also helped in so many ways. From having joint meetings with them to joint projects have given a clearer idea on how its expected carry out certain tasks to get the best out of what is done. The Rotaract Club of Kandy Metropolitan is grateful to our parent club for their support at all times.
